Arizona's travel information alerting system

Established in July 2000 by the Federal Communications Commission, 511 is the nationally-designated, three-digit telephone number for traveler information. 511 was created to provide an easy-to-remember number travelers could use to access road and traffic information from within the jurisdiction, such as Arizona, they are traveling.

The Arizona Department of Transportation deployed its statewide 511 telephone system in March 2002 and has continued to make improvements. What started out as a system that covered only freeways and airports in Phoenix and Tucson now provides information for all ADOT roadways, special event travel and parking information, travel times on high-volume corridors, transfers to local transit agencies, information and transfer options for state and national parks, border wait times, details for Amber, Blue and Silver alerts and more.

Arizona travelers can access the traveler information line by dialing 511 from anywhere in the state. It can be accessed from outside the state by dialing 1-888-411-ROAD (7623). Information is also available online at www.az511.gov.

511 is maintained and operated by the Arizona Department of Transportation in cooperation with regional, state and local partners.
